D-Day

7th January 2008 marked not only the first Live! Operations camp experienced by St. Margarets Girls’ School, it was also the first Live! Ops experienced by an all-girls’ school. This was no mean feat, looking at the training the girls had gone through in the first half of today.

While National Service is a mandatory thing for our boys, most girls would not be able to relate to the experience. It was an opportunity for them to gain a greater understanding of the workings in the Army, rather than catching the occasional glimpses of soldier life from their father/brothers/the media. It was an eventful morning’s training, where the campers learned real-life drills, played games designed to simulate army conditions.

Army conditions were simulated right down to the nitty-gritty details, as this is a thematic camp. Platoon mentors led their groups, teaching them victory cheers. The platoons also had to perform the "Contacted!" Drill when they met other platoons. The girls produced a praiseworthy performance, keeping their chin up and going through the trainings with enthusiasm.

When the going gets tough, the St Margarets girls get going!
